Most pro athletes start out as children. Gabe started racing carts at 14, open wheel cars at 19, and his first pro year in the IMSA Mustang Challenge at 21! Turns out he got brain cancer at 11.

He underwent 48 days of radiation and 48 weeks of chemo over the next two years. Right before his 14th birthday, he got the remission greenlight. When asked what he wanted to do with his life, he replied, “I want to be a racecar driver!“.

He weighed 56 pounds. Doctors said he needed growth hormones to catch up. He said “No way! Get me a nutritionist, a trainer and I’m going to put in the work.“ Now he's a world class athlete and racing success story!

Gabe's mission to help children battling cancer inspired a documentary “Do Something Extraordinary“. Like his dad Jake, I'm compelled to support his dream. If you are too, please share it. gabetesch48c.com

The Rolex Monterey Motorsports reunion is my annual pilgrimage to the hallowed ground of Laguna Seca. I walk the pits among an astounding collection of race cars, drivers and mechanics. It’s truly wonderful to see these racing success machines, talk to the owners, mechanics and drivers, and to viscerally experience them starting up and racing right in front of me.

My first sports car was a really cool turbocharged ‘73 Datsun 240Z and this year I came across a famously successful Z race car. It's owner, Jake “Pops“ Tesch spent 6 years faithfully restoring it and his son Gabe was racing it. He said “My baby is driving my baby!“.

Racing Success with Jake & Gabe Tesch

I offered to Brainspot the performance tension that was affecting his racing success. Here’s what the real Speed Racer says about our work together…

"When I was 11, I was diagnosed with brain cancer. After finishing treatment at 13, I decided to chase my dream of becoming a race car driver. Now, at 22, I’ve had the chance to race professionally across the U.S. and Europe.

I met Richard at the Monterey Historics, where I was racing, and right away I could tell he was a genuinely caring person. Though we just met, he started connecting me with people who might support my career. He also wanted to help me perform at a high level through a method called Brainspotting.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked with a lot of different sports performance coaches, and they’ve all had their own great techniques. But what really makes Brainspotting stand out is how different it is from the usual methods.

Most coaches teach you how to manage anxiety, but Brainspotting helps you release it completely. Instead of pushing stress or doubt to the side, you process and clear it from your system, which is a longer-lasting approach.

Since working with Richard, I’ve noticed a big difference in how calm, confident, and focused I feel behind the wheel. He’s not only great at what he does he’s one of the most genuine and selfless people I’ve ever met, and I’m really grateful to have him in my corner."
